This was part of my problem with the book. A new tale of terror and magic in a brand highlanxer world. In this series Book 1. This kind of got on my nerves because several times the problem was Averill, once again, stupidly doing something to “please” Kade and having it backfire. She has a tincture that makes them vomit and puts it in their whiskey every time she brings it to them in xands attempt to turn them off of the drink.
Averill’s like “oh, I totally forgot to mention that there’s a super-heavy chest in the secret passage. She’d never last in the harsh Highlands as sweet as she was.

Of course like so many of Sands stories their road to happiness isn’t a easy one. It did pain him to speak though he was sure a drink would help with that. She’s been writing since grade school and considers herself incredibly lucky to be able to make a career out of it.
Averill, with her expansive knowledge of care-taking, has been helping Kade get well for weeks.
He then falls on his own knife, neatly killing himself so neither our hero nor heroine have to deal the death blow. I really liked that, but I still have yet to figure out why way back then, English men did not like women with red hair. Sands was never able to get me into the story. Feisty, red-haired heroine there’s a surprise meets manly Scottish warrior, marries him, falls in love, and helps to solve a not-very-mysterious mystery.
Who could have imagined a Highland warrior would be the only gentleman around? According to Kade “Were bandits to beset Averill, I fear she’d thank them for troubling themselves. I loved that the couple are married at the beginning of the book and the entire story is of how they fall in love and work as a team. I loved those details. Of course that’s a little hard when someone is trying to kill Kade.
I’m happy to say that it did come back to me. You have had little or nothing lynway eat or drink for weeks. Lady Averill helped save his life, and for that Kade is truly grateful.

This leads to a rather squicky part of the story when Averill has to use her dress to bind Kade’s wounds and the rides through the rain wearing nothing but her chemise, which of course turns the affair into a wet T-shirt contest when she rides into the keep.
Main characters are Kade Steward, Lady Averill. My second Lynsay Sands novel. Lots of heat, but also cleverness, mystery, and humor. I wasn’t a huge fan of the goofy things that kept happening to prevent them sand sex but judging from the reviews they were a lot of people’s favorite part so YMMV. But nope, Kade’s fine with it all. Hellion and the Highlander was my favourite of Lynsay Sand’s medieval Highland series.

It is showing temper, but not enough for the title to include the word “Hellion” in it. Description “You can’t help but fall in love with Lynsay Sands! Sex was a private matter, with ALOT of misconceptions surrounding it and for poor Averill on highlanderr wedding night, she must rely on the servant women for her “education”. No doubt whatever subject I choose will bore you to tears. Lady Averill Mortagne learned to control her fierce temper as a young girl.
When she braves an unexpected danger by his side, Averill will prove to Kade that her heart is as fiery as her hair.
But Kade never really pursues that topic, which I didn’t understand.
