Through well written dialog and illustrations, the reader comes to understand the characters’ feelings and emotions. It is about a young boy named Skagmeta, whose main interest is in soccer, but is faced with such a heavy decision at school one day when he must ultimately rat out what his parents do at home at night.


The Composition is a little wordy for a picturebook, requiring that the child have developed enough of an attention span to sit through the prose with selected illustrations, but limits the story to character development, description of the setting, and then the main libor without wandering off on to tangents.

But something is wrong: News and information are censored by the government and soldiers, so his parents should listen to the radio quietly. It would defiantly spark a discussion. It also questions what is moral and what does it mean to live under dictatorship. While the story makes a strong point about dictatorship, the language often seems forced.

It is filled with details and moments where Pedro bonds with zntonio receives love from his parents, leaving the reader emotionally entangled in their story.

Along with the texts, illustrations anronio readers much information about time period and geographical details. They are to write about what their parents do each evening. He listens as his parents complain about the dictatorship that rules their country. The art reads almost like snapshots, slices from a day here and there, where people keep their true feelings hidden. The name of the protagonist implies the place he lives in as well. Because of the complexity of concepts and the amount of text, this book is best used with upper elementary students.

This was a real issue that occurred outside of the US that our students should be educated on. Honestly, I had to take a closer glance to understand how younger children in other countries may be forced to deal with issues nonexistent or masked in the United States.

The book shows that as powerless as one may seem there is always a possibility to do something against evil. His father skadmeta and says he guesses they’ll have to get a skaemeta set.

He knows he can’t tell the truth, or his parents will be taken away, as has happened to other friends. The pictures in this book composicipn say what isn’t said in the text, having so many symbols and so many elements that bring upon deep discussion.
