Should feeling empathy for the author of a memoir be a prerequisite This book is unquestionably very well-written and fascinating, yet I struggled with hornbafher many stars to give it.

Is this a I gave this honbacher five stars because it’s a fantastic book. Close to my heart Such a heart-rending memoir, but such a favourite of mine. However, the insight is only a feeling and a glimpse. I’d be interested to read her take on the events now, many years later, as recovered as anyone could be.


Like its some great accomplishment to nearly kill yourself through starvation. Ok, I read this a long time ago, but it’s still quite possibly the best book on eating disorders — or even on adolescent mental illness — that I’ve ever read.

Marya at first refuses to be checked in for treatment, but after realizing how weak she really is, signs herself into the hospital for treatment. This was an interesting story, well narrated by the author though the sound quality wasn’t brilliant. The story moves along at a perfect pace, with enough detail to give a horrifying sense of understanding, but not so much as to become preachy or dull.

At twelve, she was anorexic. Some of her internal thoughts, when combined, shed incredible amounts of light on her as an anorexic and likely most anorexics in general. Marya describes her plummet to her lowest point in her struggle with anorexia, a time when she is eating almost nothing and weighs only 52 pounds.

She convinces her parents to let her go hodnbacher California and live with her stepmother when she is released from treatment.

I was even able to talk openly about Anorexia Nervosa with my Mother This time equipted with the knowledge from Wasted. I can offer little more than my perspective, my experience of having an eating disorder. But Marya decided to live. It gives out secrets and tips that could easily kill you, glorifies it and makes it seem like its no hornbache deal.
