A simple quest about a girl who is looking for love and struggles between what she’d like and what her origins, cultu Mmmh, honestly i would have given it a 1.

Sesuai judulnya, novel ini ternyata benar-benar berisi perjuangan Anju mencari suami yang selalu gagal. I have recommended this novel to many of my girl cousins and even had my mom read it.

I enjoyed the premise of this book; Anju searches for a husband in all aspects of her life, with her families’ pressures mounting as she ages. Anju uses fashion in an attempt to attain balance and define herself: This novel is quite unique, even though it’s not really good.

Also on my blog, Luthien Reviews At thirty-three, Anju should long since have been married and settled in her native India. While pursuing a graduate degree and career, Anju embraces the idea of “falling in matrimonkal a phrase that doesn’t exist in the Indian language— “we say pyar hogaya —love has happened” —but the Prada-loving fashion publicist still finds herself “oddly drawn to the age-old system of arranged marriage” and stubbornly believes “observing the tradition” will elevate her puurposes the highest ranking on the scale of social conduct.

View Full Version of PW. Aromanya matrimoial dari setiap sudut. I knew right away that if I liked the book, it wouldn’t be for the brilliance of the writing.

What does that mean? I read it 10 years ago and – though i don’t remember too purposs of the plot itself – i do remember that i had a lot of mixed feelings about it. Throughout the story, word imagery is excellently wielded to maximum impact with minimum fuss, and the result is a story which is simple, serene and yet serious.

She’s had her birth chart read, her destiny foretold. Only then is she able to persuade her parents to allow her to move to New York, where, she hopes, kaavita will not be viewed as a failure. I wonder, what does she do in the New York apartment that she is so attached too? I didn’t hate the characters; Purpoes just couldn’t care less about them.

For me, the book didn’t live up to the hype. Anju is mmatrimonial in a family in Bombay-India, where girls are supposed to get married the moment they cross daswni teens. And yes, also how in the end she manages to kind of live in the moment and finally finds happiness in a man and a marriage…apparently on her own terms.

Books by Kavita Daswani. Mmmh, honestly i would have given it a 1.

Lots of great visuals in this one, as if it were written for a future Single Girl Comedy, but the storytelling is much more telling than showing: Other reviews have listed two primary problems with this book: Tapi worth to read. Anju wants a husband.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. Jul 11, Eileen rated it liked it Shelves: Anju isn’t just “Indian” – she’s about as representative of Indian women as Paris Hilton is of an American woman kavitw and it’s rather irritating to have reviewers call the book “Bridget Jones’s diary with matrimonisl distinct Indian flavor” Library journal, emphasis mine or “matchmaking Indian-style collides with love American style” Publishers weekly.

This happened, and then this happened, and then this happened. Equally important, her entire family wants Anju to have a husband. But when you are cursed, it doesn’t matter how much money your family has and how desperate they are to marry you off, no one presentable will present themselves.

Think we’re not as guilty? Daswani does not disappoint: Tapi perjalanan Anju membuat saya berpikir. There were some moments where I wanted to smack the heroine, but-objectively, at least- I know that her actions were motivated by a different cultural upbringing than my own.

And our “liberal,” “independent” New-Yorker heroine’s attitudes to her parents’ domestic help in Bombay are mildly jarring. I really admired how she did not allow for her life to only be defined by her desire to be married I love that she buily a life for herself in a way that was foriegn and uncomfortable for the people she loved most. What will it take for Anju to meet the man that others assure her has been born for her and, in the meantime, how can she balance her traditional Indian life with her increasingly independent American one?

Ya, tentang pencarian cinta sejati ditengah kepatuhan terhadap budaya India ditengah modernisasi.

For Matrimonial Purposes

Very quick, easy-read, but the main character, Anju, got on my last nerves. The endless efforts that her parents make to get her married are hilarious.

She simply wants to get married. Also, I absolutely hated the way she put muslim countries down puroses this book. Kenapa perempuan di usia tertentu “harus” menikah?

For Matrimonial Purposes by Kavita Daswani

Chick lit set in India with lots of details about Indian culture and weddings. It was, essentially, a biodegradable life, one that, if I let it slip from my grip, would merge with the dirt and disappear, leaving nothing behind.

Pugposes of the American superiority begins to deflate as we begin to realize much of Anju’s plight may also be our own. Jun 17, Marcia rated it liked it Shelves:
