Critical Analysis — Ferdinand Oyono’s Houseboy
They were so fearful, insecure, ignorant and mentally fragile that they cons Painful. Toundi is held in a hut near the police headquarters. Eh, I could give some analysis of this book, the simple and abrupt writing style at least in translationthe story that focuses on the day-to-day activities of the white employers more so than the narrator’s inner life or feelings, but it boils down to another “this book has some academic value, but otherwise isn’t likely to be of much interest unless you’re from the area” review.
Written in the s, it is a deftly put together examination of the clashes between the natives of Cameroon and the Europeans that came to subjugate them. This book was originally published inwhen Cameroon was still a French colony, and no doubt caused a stir at the time and has historical value ferdinahd that reason.

I ferdijand the part about this novel that struck me the most was that while it managed to be sad and subtle, in terms of storyline and characters esp the white charactersit combined that sad, quiet, subtlety with these casual little asides of brutality.

First of all reading through a book is good however it depends in houseby content of it which is the content is as scrumptious as food or not. It is also an indictment of the lie behind the policy of assimilation — learn to speak French and ape our manners and we will welcome you as Frenchmen — as almost youseboy French person shudders at the thought of that actually happening.
It shows you what it needs to show in the everyday life of a houseboy, not in the events of revolution or the political struggles that eventually threw off the colonial yoke. The scene when he is describing to the cook what he has found under the wife’s bed particularly amusing.
This novel doesn’t make heavy use of graphic violence to make its point, however, and perhaps that’s a part of its power.

But i think tried to tell the white men in Africa continent to return back home and those that ferdinad not go should not maltreat any African…. Toundi’s story is troubling but engaging. Gradually his eyes are opened to its realities, and ferdlnand the end it destroys him. And the most pathetic aspect of the believe of we Africans is that we do not value ourselves, we only value to white man’s belief and his culture.

While he’s is a good natured boy with a pure heart, the French exploitation of native Cameroonians cause the demise of Toundi this isn’t a spoiler, trust me!
Be careful not to judge the past by the present. Angry and ashamed, he accuses Toundi for the theft of his money and his woman; both items he treats as material commodities. No trivia or quizzes yet.

He becomes the houseboy of the Commandant, and is witness to the childish egotism and fickleness of his colonial masters. As I ended, I had forgotten that I was reading a diary, for it reads nothing like one, and nothing about the language Oyono chose bothered me. I like to read stuff and to think about stuff and to fix stuff. Some just strike a certain pitch or tone that inspires the reader, etc.
Toundi believes great vistas are opening up for him by being the houseboy of one of the white colonial administrators.
