It’s not that I’m a grammar nazi, but the quality of the work is so great that the multitude of the typos, wrong headings above pages pages, no spacing between words, wrong numeration really were the only downside, which could have been prevented. Waldron also argues “covenant status was conferred irrespective of spiritual qualifications” in the Old Covenant while the New Covenant “confers the required response on all those brought into it” The London Confession which preceded the document says of baptism that “The persons designed by Christ, to dispense this ordinance, the Scriptures hold forth to a preaching Disciple, it being no where tied to a particular church, officer, or person extraordinarily sent, the commission enjoining the administration, being given to them under no other consideration, but as considered Disciples.

When I started studying the Confession I didn’t realizes that a confession is actually a Systematic Theology! There is then an outline of the chapter, following which he explains de meaning, and when appropriate the history, of that chapter and its assertions. To be a Calvinist Baptist – or, for that matter, to be calvinistic and baptistic without necessarily saying one is either a Calvinist or a Baptist – is to be at least somewhat familiar with the confession of al which the Particular Baptists of England published in View all 3 comments.
My edition of this book as published by Evangelical Press is full of spelling mistakes and basic errors that any proof reader should have picked up – random quote df all over the place, the word modern constantly appearing as modem for example.

If, as I suspect, the text of bautizta edition comes from scanning the pages of a previous publication, then creating such indexes would surely have been simple; indexing software does exist, so that laborious manual indexing need not occupy anyone’s time. This time I have taken the time to go through it with Sam Waldron which I though he did a very good job.
Though I did not study it very deeply. Waldron doesn’t skimp in his explanations, the pamphlet format of the Confession becomes a thick book pages counting the notes and appendices that could easily serve as a small systematic theology. Waldron also confesipn A. An excellent presentation of historic Christian doctrine.
They fall into two heads – matters of production, and matters of content. It is basically a mini systematic theology and a great one! I could wish for a good editing job.
Oh, that congregations would take advantage of this outstanding tool to instruct and edify their members. But if every book in my library had as few faults as this one does, some of them would be in considerably better shape than they are now.

In order to address the “practical reality de facto ” of “unsaved church members,” he provides the category of “legal basis de jure ” For example, I don’t think his commentary on chapter 7 is an accurate represents the position in the Confession. This was the confession which the Particular Baptists used for another years or so, and was the confession which Charles Spurgeon’s Metropolitan Tabernacle adopted, and republished.
The first and foremost thing that I love about this Confession is it’s high, high, high view of God’s sovereign freedom. Though I’ve owned this book for many years, this is the first time I’ve read it straight through, cover to cover.
