Aus dem Leben eines Taugenichts

Ho trovato su questo libro un giudizio molto severo di Thomas Mann. Eichendorff uses a lot of romantic tropes, such as the artist as bon vivant and misunderstood genius, and even incorporates a lot of popular folksongs into the narrative. Quotes from Aus dem Leben ein Am Ende gleicht es eher eine Operette, mit seiner irren Handlung — als ob man von Wien nach Rom reisen sollte, und dabei imme Eine reizende Geschichte.

It’s a stretch of the imagination, though not as much as the twists at the end. And no matter how much he is disheartened by the unpropitious circumstances he stumbles upon, he never loses his spirit to endure; things always, for one reason or other, turn out for the better.

Von Eichendorff was a romantic poet and it shows in this picaresque novel. Sorry Eichendorff – I can appreciate your romantic poetry and I realize that you make great use of lyrical language in this story about a Good-for-nothing, but it just didn’t work for me. It has the emotional depth of a puddle and it largely just a trivial romp, although Eichendorff does have a wry turn of phrase from time to time. Deceptively simple, his language is profoundly musical, and his themes, exemplified by his atmospheric poem “Mondnacht” Moonlit Nightwhich a critic called an eminently “undemonic” night poem, often include the ineffable mystery of nature, experienced as the creation of an unfathomable deity, in which this devout Catholic believed without any reservations.

Relatively benign and plain and ho-hum compared to the likes of Lazarillo, Candide, Kohlhaas, Quixote and others until the very end which had a twist that I certainly didn’t see coming. And there is the novel’s staying power, I feel.

Well, in the end the fondest dream of Good-for-nothing came true and so he and the daughter of the duke lived happily every after. I can see why this would make good teaching material: And that is a happy ending that I have no power to question.

Not the most profund reading experience, but certainly an amusing piece of early escapism! Want to Read Currently Reading Read. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. I’m probably wrong, but I got the feeling that Eichendorff was trying to portray how a young man or teenager sees, and interacts with the world; with optimism, an open mind and enjoyment; or maybe he was showing how we should try to experience life.

It’s definitely a novel to read in spring, preferably while reclining in an open field, and thinking about falling in love for no verifiable reason.

About Joseph von Eichendorff. From what I have read about the author studying law and having to get through with writing literature which is not a bad thing perrigiorno

He left Vienna into fight against Napoleon. But personally, there was just nothing of interest here for me. The story is cute, but suffers from its brevity.

A charming little adventure Amazon Restaurants Food delivery from local restaurants. Not like I don’t read enough already, but the lack of character development and exposition make it hard to care about the series of Forrest Gumpian interludes experienced by our protagonist.

Sit down, read the book, enjoy the life of a “Taugenichts” and smile.

Well, that’s the way I would like to put all of these but I guess it may not be different to everyone as certainly I may not be aware of the background of those little encounters with different secondary characters. This charming tale should be read by all young dreamers. If you intend to read this novel then you should be clear that this is not gritty realism, rather it is a type of picaresque novel. Eichendorff’s style is elegant and lucid, reminiscent of his fellow romantics.
