They just go with the most obvious answer. Thankfully Mina has since given us another couple of series protagonists, but in my opinion, none with such an miina as her first.

What the hell happened here? Retrieved 14 September I really liked this book and plan to read the next two in the trilogy. Looking forward to the next 2 books. Both had sex, violence and profanity. Jul 06, Leonardo Etcheto rated it liked it. Granted, Mauri is an unusual amateur sleuth, but what is it that makes her so? Garnethill I got the gist of the dialogue and the storyline, I got into it.
I’m glad this book is over. Panic-stricken, she sets out in pursuit of the truth and soon garnrthill up a horrifying trail of deception and suppressed scandal.

I always enjoy a mystery, and this is a good one; I quite like that the protagonist isn’t entirely likable–she reads much more “real” that way; the book has an excellent sense of place–I’ve never been to Glasgow, but while reading this book, I alm 3. The whole story is narrated by Maureen and we only witness her interviews with police and her thoughts about the police investigation. A fantastic mystery with a very satisfying ending!
I didn’t sleep for a week after I heard. The main character is damaged,realistic I had to keep excusing myself at work and hiding in the loo because I when it occurred to me I would laugh like a drunk sailor on shore leave. Final Thoughts I enjoyed the book enough to read the second one. In the meantime, she also has to gzrnethill with the seriously flawed characters that constitute her family, some of whom doubt that she really was the victim of sexual abuse, and some of whom suspect that she may be guilty of the murder.

This is a hard read for a man but worth it as Maureen is a character grounded in the real world. Writing Garnethill – Denise’s experience. I spent a lot of time thinking about writing, composing lines in my head and day dreaming about hours of blank time in front of the computer.
Yes it is a murder mystery with twists and turns, but I found it a bit hard to get into at first. Good to read about, crappy to experience. I was living in a bedsit at the time and the phone rang one morning at nine am. Why are the Scottish such dark writers? Mostly because I was constantly saying ” For pete’s sake don’t do that! Written from an interesting and intriguing perspective, the Garnethill series is a great read. In the morning, she awakes to find her boyfriend, dead and tied up in A Solid First Effort – 3 Stars Having read some of Denise Mina’s later works, I know her a good writer with vibrant characters.
The story is set I had mixed feelings about Garnethill. She always intended it as a trilogy, partly because it was too big a family story to fit into one novel and partly because she liked the triptych form in art history.
