This is Italy, admired and reviled, a country that has guarded her secrets and confounded outsiders. It is, of course, impossible to “sum up” or even successfully “evoke” Italy in pages, as Augias a journalist, writer and TV presenter concedes, but the resulting mish-mash is engaging and literate, occasionally insightful, and certainly worth a dip.
