It’s the most thorough set of arguments from both sides I’ve ever read.

This is not a religious view. Kaczor’s book is systematically outlined to go through all the arguments that he can. It is a good introduction ethjcs anyone who wishes to read a serious and thoughtful account of all of the various serious philosophical views that support the right to abortion.

Fhristopher trouble is that some individuals who are genetically enough like us to be counted as humans, such as the irreversibly unconscious, are not capable of freedom and reason. The claim that all human beings have a serious right to life seems to imply that a human being who is in an irreversibly unconscious state, such as an anencephalic child or someone who has experienced severe trauma to her brain or is totally abortiin dead, has a serious right to life.

It also provides several justifications for the conclusion that all human beings, including those in utero, should be respected as persons. It will certainly not persuade those who agree with the orthodox Vatican view that not to provide ordinary care, such as food and water, to any human being, no matter how profoundly disabled, is intentionally to end an innocent human life and is, therefore, wrong.


Second, Kaczor treats the speciesism objection as merely linguistic.
