The idea of a world where women, and witches especially, borrn supressed by an all powerful “Brotherhood” was compelling, and the worldbuilding felt genuine. There are Japanese families and side characters. It’s a pretty important mission, because the Cahill sisters have a secret: The Brothers are afraid the witches will rise up again someday, Mother said, so they loathe the idea of powerful women. Cate herself is an amazing protagonist.
Consider that, if they were real which is kind of the point of writing fiction: I was lucky enough to win an arc of this from the author’s blog, and wow, am I so glad I did.
Cate Cahill is a witch, as are her two younger sisters, Maura and Tess. I started vorn just because witch stories can be fun and or cool. Cate is pulled between family obligations and societal pressures—she has only a few short months to find a husband lest the Brotherhood assign one, but marriage will take her away from her sisters. Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters.
Also, why the insistence to have another baby and risk her life, leaving her daughters unprotected? I so enjoyed the love story.
