It is very likely that I am wrong and the parts require a certain awkwardness and what I call over the top is actually blaackbird planning.

Brilliant and uncomfortable for everyone, Blackbird is a tough challenge for any actor, actress and director. Switch to the mobile blafkbird of this page. Nor will it comfort those determined to ddavid victims any possibility of agency in their own abuse. Cliches if, sadly, cliches with truth in them like Una’s promiscuity are dwelled upon far more than more interesting and complicated subjects such as her capacity for new ‘love’ and what would make her describe her sexual relationships in detail to her parents!

By Atticus Bikos Fifteen years later, Una tracks him down, and this gripping one-scene play records their conversation. Perhaps… A comedian in disrepute- which may highlight the problem of treating too lightly a serious, moral and life issue- was talking about the need to understand and engage with a child kidnapper, if only to get to save the children involved. Blackbird, which was last seen in with Daniels as Ray and Alison Pill as Una, is a distressing two-hander about the dangerous influence and magnetism of traumatic events.
To be honest the traverse version, being the first one we saw, was most harrowing.
You never said it but when I held you in my arms I could feel it. Anyone who’s ever tried to revisit a failed relationship—a broken love affair, a marriage that ended in bitter divorce, a childhood with abusive parents—will understand the challenge Una and Ray face as they sort through the secrets and self-deceptions, trying to comprehend the past so they can move forward into the light of the dark black night.

There are fascinating subjects floating around it, but ultimately the play itself is focused on being “thought-provoking” that it doesn’t actually feel like it tells a story.
